STUDENT PLACE — STUDENT TERMS OF USE
EFFECTIVE DATE: 6 October 2026
Welcome to Student Place (the "Platform"). The Platform is owned and operated by Student Place Limited ("Student Place", "we", "our", or "us").
By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Platform.
These Terms apply to students using Student Place. Participating businesses are subject to separate agreements with Student Place.
1. ELIGIBILITY
To register for and use Student Place as a student, you must be currently enrolled at a university or other tertiary education institution accepted by Student Place.
By registering, you confirm that information you provide about your identity and student status is accurate.
Student Place may require evidence of your student status and may restrict, suspend or terminate an account where we reasonably believe that:
the user is not an eligible student;
information supplied during registration or verification is false or misleading;
another person's identity or student ID has been used; or
the account is otherwise being used in breach of these Terms.
Student Place does not currently impose a general minimum age for account registration. If you are under 18, we encourage you to involve a parent or guardian when registering for or using Student Place.
New Zealand law contains specific rules concerning contracts involving minors. Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit rights that apply to minors under New Zealand law.
Certain offers available through Student Place may relate to alcohol or other age-restricted products or services. The appearance of an offer within Student Place does not mean that you are legally eligible to purchase or receive the relevant product or service.
You must satisfy all applicable age and identification requirements. Participating businesses remain responsible for complying with their own legal obligations concerning the sale and supply of alcohol and other age-restricted products.
2. ACCOUNT REGISTRATION
The Student Place registration process may require you to provide:
a unique username;
email address;
password; and
optional referral code.
You must verify your email address.
You may also be asked to complete student verification by providing:
your full legal name;
student ID number; and
a photograph of your student ID card.
Student verification may currently be skipped during initial registration and completed later. Certain features, offers or functionality may be unavailable or restricted until verification has been completed.
You must provide accurate information and must not upload or use another person's student ID.
Student Place uses automated technology to assist with student verification. Further information about the information collected and the verification process is contained in our Privacy Policy.
3. ACCOUNT SECURITY
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for activity undertaken through your account.
You must not:
knowingly allow another person to impersonate you;
allow another person to use your account to obtain benefits they are not entitled to;
access or attempt to access another user's account without authorisation; or
interfere with Student Place's authentication or security systems.
If you believe your account has been accessed without authorisation, please contact Student Place promptly.
4. USE OF THE PLATFORM
You may use Student Place only for lawful, personal and non-commercial purposes consistent with these Terms.
You must not:
reproduce, distribute or commercially exploit Platform content without permission;
interfere with the operation, security or integrity of the Platform;
create fake accounts, transactions, referrals or purchases;
manipulate purchase amounts or rewards;
misuse another user's QR code;
misrepresent your identity or student status;
impersonate another student, business or person;
collude with another user or participating business to improperly obtain StuDollars, discounts or other benefits;
use automated systems to improperly interact with the Platform; or
otherwise attempt to exploit or manipulate the Student Place rewards programme.
5. PARTICIPATING BUSINESSES AND TRANSACTIONS
Student Place connects students with participating businesses and provides loyalty, rewards and discount functionality.
Student Place does not process payment for purchases made at participating businesses.
When you make an eligible purchase:
you pay the participating business directly;
the participating business may scan your Student Place QR code;
the participating business enters or confirms the relevant purchase amount; and
Student Place records the transaction and calculates applicable StuDollars, tier progress, discounts and benefits.
The underlying purchase is between you and the participating business.
Student Place is not the seller or supplier of a participating business's food, beverages, retail products or other goods or services merely because that business or its offers appear on the Platform.
6. STUDOLLARS
StuDollars are Student Place reward points used solely within the Platform.
StuDollars:
are not legal currency;
cannot be withdrawn or redeemed for cash;
have no cash withdrawal value;
cannot be sold or exchanged outside Student Place; and
cannot be transferred between users unless Student Place expressly introduces functionality permitting this.
New eligible student accounts currently receive 75 StuDollars.
Students currently earn 5 StuDollars for each NZ$1 of eligible spending recorded through Student Place.
For example, an eligible NZ$10 purchase currently earns 50 StuDollars.
StuDollars currently expire 14 days after they are earned or credited, unless a different expiry period is expressly stated for a particular promotion or reward.
Student Place may correct balances where StuDollars have been allocated in error or obtained through fraud, manipulation, an invalid transaction or other misuse.
7. TIERS AND DISCOUNTS
The current standard Student Place tiers are:
Bronze: 75+ StuDollars — 5% discount
Silver: 200+ StuDollars — 10% discount
Gold: 500+ StuDollars — 15% discount
Platinum: 900+ StuDollars — 20% discount
Tier eligibility depends on your current eligible StuDollar balance and applicable programme rules.
Individual businesses and offers may have additional conditions, exclusions, product restrictions or eligibility requirements displayed within Student Place or communicated by the participating business.
Student Place may change StuDollar earning rates, starting balances, tier thresholds, discount levels, expiry periods and other programme rules from time to time.
Where a change materially affects users, Student Place will take reasonable steps to communicate the change before or when it takes effect where practicable.
8. REFERRALS
Students may be provided with a unique referral code or referral functionality.
Under the current standard referral programme, an eligible referring student earns 5 StuDollars for each NZ$1 of eligible purchases made by the referred student during the 14 days following the qualifying referral.
Referral rewards are subject to the applicable StuDollar expiry rules.
You must not:
create fake accounts to generate referrals;
refer yourself using multiple accounts;
create or arrange fake transactions;
manipulate referral relationships;
spam, deceive or coerce people into using your referral code; or
otherwise attempt to improperly obtain referral rewards.
Student Place may reject, reverse or correct rewards obtained through fraudulent, manipulated or otherwise invalid referral activity.
9. REFUNDS, CANCELLATIONS AND INVALID TRANSACTIONS
Refunds and cancellations of purchases are handled between you and the participating business.
Student Place does not currently automatically reverse StuDollars when a participating business refunds a purchase.
However, Student Place may reasonably correct or adjust StuDollars, tier progress, discounts or related benefits where the underlying transaction has been refunded, cancelled, reversed, duplicated, entered incorrectly, fraudulent or otherwise invalid.
10. ALCOHOL AND AGE-RESTRICTED OFFERS
Some participating businesses may sell alcohol, and Student Place may display businesses, promotions or offers relating to alcohol.
Student Place does not itself sell or supply alcohol through the Platform.
Users are responsible for complying with applicable age restrictions. Participating businesses remain responsible for verifying age and identification where required and for complying with applicable licensing and sale-of-alcohol laws.
An offer appearing on Student Place does not override any legal restriction or require a participating business to supply an age-restricted product to a person who is not legally eligible to receive it.
11. PROMOTIONS AND COMPETITIONS
Student Place may occasionally operate promotions, giveaways or competitions.
Individual promotions may be subject to additional terms covering matters such as:
eligibility;
entry requirements;
opening and closing dates;
prizes;
winner selection; and
prize redemption.
Where separate promotional terms are provided, those terms apply in addition to these Terms.
12. SUSPENSION AND TERMINATION
Student Place may restrict, freeze, suspend or terminate an account where we reasonably believe this is necessary because of:
fraudulent or fake transactions;
fake or manipulated referrals;
misuse of another person's identity or student ID;
manipulation of the rewards system;
unauthorised QR-code use;
abuse of another user, participating business or Student Place;
attempts to interfere with the Platform;
material or repeated breach of these Terms; or
conduct that creates a material security, legal or fraud risk.
Where appropriate, Student Place may investigate suspected misuse and correct StuDollar balances or benefits improperly obtained.
13. ACCOUNT DELETION
You may initiate deletion of your Student Place account through the account settings within the Platform.
When your account is deleted, Student Place deletes personal account information associated with your account, including your:
profile;
StuDollar balance;
notifications;
badges;
referral records; and
any student ID photograph retained by Student Place.
You are also removed from other users' friend lists.
Student Place retains certain historical transaction and Platform-interaction records for purposes such as business reporting and maintaining historical records. When your account is deleted, your student identifier is removed from retained purchase, event-save, event-view, event-click and business-click records and replaced with a non-identifying deleted-user reference.
Deleting an account does not require deletion of information that has been anonymised so that it no longer identifies you.
14. MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
Student Place may give you the option to receive promotional emails relating to Student Place, participating businesses, offers and promotions.
Marketing consent is optional and is not enabled by default.
You do not need to consent to marketing in order to create a Student Place account.
If you choose to receive marketing, you may withdraw your consent or unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe functionality provided.
Student Place may separately send service communications reasonably necessary to operate your account or Platform, including account, verification, security, legal and important service communications.
15. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The Platform and its content, including Student Place branding, logos, software, designs, graphics and original text, are owned by Student Place Limited or used with permission from the relevant rights holder.
You may not copy, modify, distribute or commercially exploit Student Place intellectual property except with our written permission or where otherwise permitted by law.
Intellectual property belonging to participating businesses remains the property of those businesses or their respective rights holders.
16. FEEDBACK
If you voluntarily provide feedback, ideas or suggestions to Student Place, you grant Student Place a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce and adapt that feedback for the purpose of operating, developing and improving Student Place.
This does not transfer ownership of your personal information or override our obligations under applicable privacy law.
17. THIRD-PARTY BUSINESSES AND SERVICES
Student Place may display information about or links to participating businesses and third-party services.
Participating businesses remain responsible for the goods and services they supply and for complying with laws applicable to their operations.
Student Place is not responsible for an independent third party's website or privacy practices merely because it is linked to or displayed through Student Place.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted under New Zealand law.
18. PLATFORM AVAILABILITY AND ACCURACY
Student Place aims to provide a reliable and accurate Platform but does not guarantee that the Platform will always be available, uninterrupted or free from errors.
Student Place may from time to time:
maintain or update the Platform;
correct transaction or reward errors;
add, change or remove functionality;
change participating businesses or offers; or
temporarily restrict access where reasonably necessary.
If you believe your StuDollar balance, tier or transaction history is incorrect, please contact us so that we can investigate.
19. LIABILITY AND CONSUMER RIGHTS
To the extent permitted by law, Student Place is not responsible for loss caused solely by:
circumstances outside our reasonable control;
inaccurate information supplied by a user or participating business;
the independent acts or omissions of a participating business; or
temporary Platform unavailability.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted, including any rights you may have under applicable New Zealand consumer law.
20. PRIVACY
Student Place's collection, use, storage, disclosure and deletion of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.
The Privacy Policy includes information about student verification, automated processing, transaction records, information visible to participating businesses and other users, marketing communications, service providers and account deletion.
21. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
Student Place may update these Terms from time to time.
Where a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users through the Platform, email or another appropriate method.
The updated Terms will display their effective date.
Your continued use of Student Place after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance of those Terms, subject to applicable law.
22. GOVERNING LAW
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
You and Student Place submit to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
Nothing in this section limits any right you may have concerning where a claim may lawfully be brought.
